希伯来先知。圣经上提到他谴责异教，并在卡尔迈勒山（Mount Carmel）同450名巴力的先知辩论。他因此而得罪亚哈国王（King Ahba）和王后耶洗别（Jezebel），迫使他逃往郊野，后来乘旋风归天，留下继承人以利沙（Elisha）。以利亚强调一神论，宣传除以色列的上帝外别无真神。伊斯兰教也承认他是先知。

 Hebrew prophet. The Bible related that he denounced
foreign cults and defeated 450 prophets of Baal in a contest on Mount Carmel. In
doing so, he earned the enmity of King Ahab and his consort, Jezebel, who forced
him to flee into the wilderness. Later he was taken up into heaven in a
whirlwind, leaving behind his successor, Elisha. His insistence that only the
God of Israel is entitled to the name of divinity expresses a fully conscious
monotheism. He is also recognized as a prophet in Islam.
