11月11日晚，第二十九届奥林匹克运动会吉祥物发布仪式在北京举行。吉祥物由5个分别以鱼、熊猫、奥运圣火、藏羚羊、京燕为创意的"中国福娃"组成。他们以“北京欢迎你”的谐音命名，分别被称为“贝贝、晶晶、欢欢、迎迎、妮妮”。

The five friendlies were introduced as Bei Bei, Jing Jing, Huan Huan, Ying Ying and Ni Ni - which, put together, translates to "Beijing welcomes you!"

　　期待已久的奥运吉祥物终于揭晓，“吉祥物”的英文表达就是mascot，即被认为会带来好运的人、动物的形象或物件，例如：The team had a mountain lion as their mascot.（这只球队将美洲狮作为吉祥物。）
